About Teacher Education Center

The Teacher Education Center is located on the second floor of Benner Library. The collection consists of juvenile books, curriculum materials, samples of K-12 textbooks, DVDs/videos, CDs, and sheet music. The area is designed to accommodate groups working on projects and provides listening and viewing booths. A public service desk in this area is available for assistance in searching for materials on our online catalog and in locating them within the collection.

The Juvenile area is a collection of books used by students enrolled in courses dealing with literature for children and young adults. Juvenile books are divided into three sections: nonfiction, picture books, and fiction. The Juvenile collection is not a sample of a public library collection and should not be viewed as such. Some dated and controversial material is selected for student evaluation. Children may peruse the collection only in the company of an adult.

Our Teacher Activity Books collection includes K-12 education aids for developing curriculum and working with students. The classification system used with the teaching aids is unique. Most of the items are for use with elementary students and are classified by topic. If there is an age classification, it is used as a subheading under each topic. For example, all books written at an early childhood level on science can be found under ScEa (Science--Early childhood).
