Nursing Theorists

1. The following theorists are often assigned. To find others simply click on the CINAHL Headings tab and type in the last name of a theorist. CINAHL will provide the appropriate title phrase.
 
  • King Open Systems Model
  • Leiningers’ Theory of Culture Care Diversity and Universality
  • Neuman Systems Model
  • Orem Self-Care Model
  • Parse’s Theory of Human Becoming
  • Peplau Interpersonal Relations Model
  • Rogers Science of Unitary Human Beings
  • Roy Adaptation Model
  • Watson's Theory of Caring
   
2. On the advanced search screen, enter the theory phrase in quotation marks in the first search space. Use the pull down to change Default Fields to MM Exact Major Subject Heading. This search will usually generate over 100 citations.
   
3. To narrow your search, try adding an area of personal interest in the second search field: i.e. pediatrics, cardiology, emergency, family, mental…
 
   
4. Remember if a full text link is not provided, use the "Request this item (ILL)" option. The Interlibrary Loan Department can usually get the item for you, and send it to your email in a few days.
